The Northern Berkshire Amateur Radio Club maintains several nodes on both the Meshtastic and MeshCore networks. Some of these nodes are on towers providing wide-area coverage. NoBARC nodes may include the following as part of their long node name “info nobarc.org/mesh”
If you are a mesh user and have come here to learn more, welcome!
Mesh networks such as these use 900 Megahertz digital spread spectrum low powered devices that can exchange low-bandwidth communications between themselves. No license is needed to purchase, operate or experiment with these devices.
Mesh networking is a great way to learn about:
- Radio communications
- Radio wave propagation
- Effects of weather and geomagnetic conditions on distance
- Digital networking
In addition, mesh networks can provide a means of safe communications in off-grid area where cell phones have no service.
More information about Meshtastic may be found here.
More information about MeshCore may be found here.
