Repeater Etiquette
How do you make a call on an Amateur Repeater?
- First, LISTEN to make sure that the repeater is not already in use.
- Use only the power level needed to reach the repeater.
- To call another station make your call using the format “Hey you, it’s me,” for example “W1AW this is K1FFK.” If no response, repeat your call.
- To announce your presence, give your callsign and state the repeater you are on, for example “K1FFK listening on 91.”
- Our repeaters are often referred to by a shorthand reference to their frequency, i.e.,
- “Nine One” is 146.91
- “Four Two Five” is 449.425
- “Nine Hundred” is 927.875
